🍵Matcha Reviews: CHOCLATTE | Matcha Latte

CHOCLATTE is a little basic cafe tucked in a laneway on Burke Rd in Camberwell. There's an eye-catching sign outside the cafe that claims it makes the world's best hot chocolate, which of course drew me in to try the hot chocolate. I found out that they also offered a matcha latte and decided to go back to try it. Even though I've only ordered takeaway from CHOCLATTE, the cafe seems to have ample seating both inside and outside, so it would be a great meeting place. CHOCLATTE offers a range of standard cafe pastries and hot chocolate in a few different options - milk, dark, white and 1/2 milk & dark. The service at the counter was very friendly and I received my drink after waiting a few minutes outside.

Small hot chocolate/matcha latte $4.50

I ordered a small hot chocolate (milk) for takeaway on my first visit and it came out steaming hot. I had to wait a little while for it to cool down before I could drink it without burning my tongue. The flavour of the hot chocolate was strong and concentrated and overall quite pleasant The texture of the drink was slightly thin so I wished it was just a little thicker or creamier. I thought this was not a bad drink to pay $4.50 for as it definitely tasted better than any sort of hot chocolate I could make at home.

The matcha latte however, was a big disappointment. I couldn't taste any sort of green tea or matcha as it was overpowered by a syrup flavour. I suspect that this matcha latte was made using a matcha syrup and not from actual matcha or green tea powder. This drink also came out very hot and I had to wait about five minutes before I could drink it comfortably.

Final verdict: MAYBE TRY THE HOT CHOCOLATES INSTEAD ☕️
